On the 8th of June, 2024, Hokubei Budogu and California Budogu will be hosting a full day of Kendo in Northern Virginia. The day will be a workshop of shiai rules, etiquette, what referees are looking for during a shiai, and other factors that many Kendo players overlook during a shiai. The workshop will be guided by Yutaro Matsuura sensei (Renshi 7th dan) from Michigan. The workshop will be followed by a friendly practice mock tournament so that all the participants can apply the lessons from the workshop. Higher-ranking participants can use this to practice shimpan. We hope that this will allow the Kendo community in the DMV area (or other areas) to be better prepared for the Baltimore-Annapolis Kendo Tournament in the following week, 15th June 2024.
The event will conclude with a godo-keiko so all participants can build a good relationship through crossing swords.
This event has been prepared by independent businesses, Hokubei Budogu and California Budogu, and has no affiliations to any Kendo federations. It is a strictly private event. However, the participants will be required to be a part of an authentic Kendo federation, as we will follow the International Kendo Federation rules and regulations.
We hope that events like this will help unite the Kendo community in the Virginia and Maryland area and contribute to the growth of Kendo.
