The 2024 Virginia Open Keiko
A full day of Kendo • June 8th, 2024 • Ashburn, VAHokubei Budogu and California Budogu is excited to host its first Kendo event in Virginia on Saturday, 8th of June 2024. It will be a full day of shiai-based workshop, shiai practice, a friendly shiai for all the participants, and godo keiko.
We hope this event will bring the local Kendo community closer and be better prepared for the following week’s Baltimore-Annapolis Kendo Tournament on June 15th.
Special Guest Senseis
- Kazuhiro Aida Sensei (Kyoshi 7th Dan from Kyoto Kendo Federation)
- Yutaro Matsuura Sensei (Renshi 7th Dan from Midwest Kendo Federation)
Shiai (Tournament) Workshop
- Led by our special guest sensei on the rules and etiquette of shiai – very useful for first-time competitors.
- Shiai – how and when valid scores are awarded – Understanding the views and decisions made by the shinpan (referees)
- Question and Answer Session
A friendly shiai to apply the lessons from the workshop
- Individual and Team friendly tournament will take place to practice and apply what has been taught from the workshop.
- 3dan and up can practice shinpan
We hope the above two programs will help the participants during the 15th of June 2024 tournament which Baltimore-Annapolis Kendo will host.
Godo keiko
To wrap up the day, everyone is invited to join our good keiko to have an opportunity to build friendships with other Kendokas in the area through keiko.
The day will begin at 9am, and we have all day to have fun. An exact schedule will be released closer to the time of the event.
